Improvise your earnings with the Interesting Schemes & Initiatives floated by the Government of India

Farmers continue to be the backbone of the Indian economy. The Indian government in its budget
2023-24 has taken multiple steps to boost agriculture and uplift the farming community. Here are
some schemes that as a farmer you could avail of:

  1. Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN): Financial assistance of Rs. 6,000 per year
    has been provided under this scheme to small and marginal farmers, irrespective of the size
    of the landholding. This financial benefit is payable in three equal installments of Rs.2000
    each, every four months. Rs. 60000 crores have been budgeted for this purpose. Farmers

  2. Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY): This scheme provides farmers with insurance
    coverage and financial support in the event of crop failure due to natural calamities. A
    budget of Rs. 13625 crores is set aside for this crop insurance scheme. Farmers can avail of
    this benefit by applying at: https://pmfby.gov.in/.
  3. Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchai Yojana (PMKSY): This scheme aims to provide irrigation
    facilities and ensures water security to boost the productivity of farmers. The scheme works
    on the basic objective of ‘  ‘Har Khet ko pani’ and  ‘More crop per drop’ in order to improve
    water efficiency. Farmers are being educated about modern irrigation methods under this
    scheme. Rs. 10787 crores have been set aside for this irrigation scheme. To obtain benefits
    under PMKSY, the farmers can contact the nearest Office of the Agricultural Department or
    District Agriculture Officer/ District Horticulture Officer.
  4. Pradhan Mantri Kisan Maandhan Yojana (PMKMY): This is a voluntary and contributory
    pension scheme floated by the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare for Small and
    Marginal farmers wherein an assured monthly pension of Rs 3000/- is paid after the
    attainment of 60 years.
    Under this old age protection and social security scheme, the applicant depending on his/her
    age has to contribute between Rs 55 to Rs 200 per month until the age of 60. A matching
    contribution will be made by the Government of India. However, there are some
    prerequisites to enroll under this scheme such as age, cultivable land, etc, and can be found

  5. Pradhan Mantri Kisan Credit Card (PMKCC): This scheme provides easy access to credit for
    farmers. Rs. 23000 crores have been provided for this scheme by the Government of India.
    To apply, visit the bank from which you wish to get the PM Kisan credit card and enquire.
  6. Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana : An initiative by the central government to
    boost the incomes of all landholding farmer households in India. The scheme provides
    financial support of Rs. 6000 every year. Funds are transferred to the beneficiary’s bank

  7. Pradhan Mantri Kisan SAMPADA Yojana (PMKSY): A scheme for Agro-Marine Processing and
    Development of Agro-Processing Clusters. This scheme provides value-addition to the
    farmers and facilitates the movement of agricultural output/harvest from the farm to the
  8. retail outlet by creating modern infrastructure and through efficient supply chain
  9. management.
  10. Pradhan Mantri Kisan Urja Suraksha evam Utthaan Mahabhiyan (PMKUSUM): This scheme
    ensures energy security for farmers in India by promoting solar pumps and other renewable
    energy sources for agricultural use. It will enable them to earn additional income or save
    costs through the offerings noted below –
    a. Solar energy-based power plants: Renewable energy-based power plants (REPP) of
    capacity 500 kW to 2 MW will be set up by individual farmers/groups of farmers/
    cooperatives/ panchayats/ Farmer Producer Organisations (FPO)/Water User
    associations (WUA) on barren/fallow lands and the power will be purchased by local
    DISCOM at pre-fixed tariff. To avail of financial assistance, click on

    b. Solar Agriculture Pumps: Stand-alone solar agriculture pumps of capacity up to 7.5
    HP will be installed on individual farmer lands as a replacement for existing diesel
    Agriculture pumps / irrigation systems in off-grid areas, where grid supply is not
    available. Pumps of capacity higher than 7.5 HP can also be installed, however, the
    financial support will be limited to 7.5 HP capacity. To know more, contact your

    c. Individual Pump solarisation: Individual farmers having grid-connected agriculture
    pumps will be supported to solarise pumps. The farmer will be able to use the
    generated solar power to meet the irrigation needs and the excess solar power will
    be sold to DISCOMs at a pre-fixed tariff. To know more enquire at –

  11. Pradhan Mantri Annadata Aay SanraksHan Abhiyan (PM AASHA) – A scheme to ensure that
    farmers receive the right price for their crops.
